This summer, legendary techno heavyweights, Jeff Mills and Derrick May, will perform on the same stage for the first time in a one-night-only concert with Melbourne’s biggest band, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO).

The exclusive to Melbourne event, to be held on Saturday 30 January at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, will see two of the most celebrated pioneers of Detroit techno perform individual sets with the MSO, conducted and arranged by Dzijan Emin. This international exclusive will be the only show where Australian fans can catch Mills and May on the same stage.

This concert comes fresh off the success of the sold out Flight Facilities x MSO concert last month where over 13,000 people enjoyed the integration of electronic and classical music.

Jeff Mills and Derrick May hail from Detroit and were at the forefront of the Detroit techno revolution alongside fellow prominent DJs Robert Hood, Carl Craig, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson.

Mills’ performance will be an all-new, never-before-performed set especially created with composer Thomas Roussel for Melbourne audiences, while May’s set is entitled ‘Music is Music’ – a homage to his early moniker Rhythim is Rhythim.

Neither artist is a stranger to orchestral collaboration; between them they have shared the stage individually with Montpellier National Orchestra, L’Orchestre National d’Ile de France, Orchestra Lamoureux, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Mills performed a sold-out concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2014.
