Jazz legend Mike Nock and superb saxophonist Roger Manins last year released Two Out, acclaimed album of standards that included firm favourites, such as Ellington and Strayhorn’s Isfahan, Rogers and Hart’s Falling in Love with Love, along with a tune from left field in the form Tennessee Waltz, rendered, naturally, with a personal twist. Mike said the recording session was relaxed and spontaneous: “Most were first takes, as Roger and I wanted to capture some of that elusive magic that can happen when you ‘look the other way”.
No doubt that magic will be recreated, albeit in a different way—this is jazz after all—when the pair perform some of these standards live for us. This is a wonderful opportunity to see two of New Zealand’s finest exports explore some of the music they grew up with as both listeners and players.

Her intricate turnings and pure voice are trademarks of her unique sound, that you might recognize from her moving rendition of Randy Newman’s 'It feels like Home", recently featured for Qantas. Tonight she showcases a new set of material for SIMA.
