Event details

Hush: An Evening of Quiet Music is an award-winning concert series that is hellbent on creating the perfect concert environment for both the audience and Australia’s leading songwriters. It does so through one simple rule – insisting the audience remains pin-drop silent. Week one of Hush's residency at The Toff features BATTS, Closet Straights, squidgenini and special guests. Hush was established in 2012 by triple j presenter Stacy Gougoulis and WA songwriter Davey Craddock after they grew tired of their favourite artists’ gigs being wrecked by ‘noisy idiots talking up the back’. Since then they’ve staged nine dead-silent show in cathedrals, the Victorian Parliament Building, town halls and other nooks across Australia with the sole aim of creating an intense, highly-focused environment where leading Australian songwriters can take musical risks or present their songs in unusual ways with the iron-clad promise of an attentive audience. This October, Hush will take up residence in one of Melbourne’s quaintest, cosiest and downright elegant venues – The Toff In Town. Each Wednesday three to four acts from completely different genres are invited to play with the blank canvas a Hush show allows. Electronic artists may choose to throw away their electronics, electric acts may go acoustic or some may simply choose play their songs full force in the intimate way they were meant to be heard – who knows! Shut up and come on an adventure with us.
