Event details

Hurray! The good weather and good times of summer are itching their way into our lives again; what better way to get the ball rolling with legendary dubby hip hop producer and remixer, JSTAR! Jstar is the in-demand genre-switching DJ, playing bass flavoured shakers from DnB to Dancehall, Moombahton to Dubstep, Reggae , 60’s RnB and whatever else u can think of. Jstar hails from West London and in 2003, started an underground label delivering DJ tools and “get out of jail card remixes“ (DJ Kava) in the form of reggae remixes on 7” vinyl. Such classics as ‘No Diggity’ (5 –star rating in Mixmag), ‘DWYCK’ Wooh-Ha’ had the Jstar remix treatment and he went on to officially remix DJ Vadim, Madness, Ari Up (Slits), Mark Ronson (early Amy Winehouse reggae versions were discussed!), The Black Seeds, The Resonators, and heaps more… His releases were picked up top DJs like Sir Norman Jay, Francois K, David Rodigan, Grandmaster Flash, John Peel, Benji B, Oneman, Diplo, Mr Benn and Shepdog. “Jstar is an original don… Early dj that helped inspire the Major Lazer crew! Bad man!” DIPLO Airplay came from UK’s Radio 1 DJs Rob Da Bank, Huw Stephens, Don Letts, Robbo Ranx, Trevor Nelson (even daytime!), XFM, Kiss100, Red Bull Music Academy, FM4 (Austria), Radio Nova (France) Radio Eins (Germany) and many US independent stations. For the first few years, there was no contact details and not even Jstar knew who he was. …“escapee from a major record label’ and ‘mystery producer’ were all correct.. (previously at Warner Music working with Koot and Soul Hooligan); then someone released a pre-Movember picture of a guy with a moustache looking like a cross between a porn star and a terrorist; Jstar had no choice but to grow a Mo ..for ever! Soon he was known for deep digging selections at DJ shows (often with MC Honey Brown), reggae influenced, from dancehall to dubstep (“hard to play in Europe in 2005! ”Jstar ), DnB, Jungle, Roots, Dub, Ska, Soul, Hiphop ; all sorts in-between and upside down, representing his musical upbringing… “I love to play a classic deep dub set as much as a trip into new bass music” Jstar Also appearing with other MC’s Brother Culture, MC Ishu, Mystro they hit festivals and clubs all over the world consistently for the last 10 years… Glastonbury (UK), The Big Chill (UK), Secret Garden Party (UK), Womad (UK), Gurtenfestival (CH), Fusion Festival (D), Splore (NZ), Rift Valley (Kenya) NH7 Weekender (Delhi, India), RAW (DK).
