Event details

Special guest appearances and speakers to be announced. “For those who come across the sea, we’ve boundless plains to share” We, Australians opposed to the offshore detention camps, believe that the Australian government must cease from the implementation of inhumane and unethical policies that have led to a long term violation of human rights towards asylum seekers and refugees. We are deeply concerned for the people who have been held in detention indefinitely and without charge. Our history is already deeply marred, but with the recent shut-down of Manus Island, the urgency of the situation is reaching even greater heights. The UNHCR described what was now occurring on Manus as “a humanitarian crisis that was entirely preventable” and a “damning indictment of a policy meant to avoid Australia’s international obligations”. Water, food and medical supplies have been withheld from asylum seekers for over 3 weeks following the closure of the ‘Regional Processing Centre’ on Manus. These men have been beaten with metal poles and forcibly relocated to a new location on Manus Island, that is both unfinished and unsafe. We cannot stand by and allow this to happen. In support of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), please join us for a night of music and discussion on December 8 at The Gasometer Hotel. All musicians are giving of their time to support those seeking asylum, and 100% of funds will be donated to the ASRC. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to contribute to raising funds, donating products to be raffled on the night or in any other way.
