Event details

It's already February and if you've been feeling like there's a huge hole in your summer we have the answer - we haven't announced WETFEST yet! This year we'll be running WETFEST IV a little later in the year on April 21. We've moved the party back to Brunswick, where it all began, but as we've gotten a little bigger over the last 3 years, we can't host you all in our backyard anymore so we've moved the festivities to Howler. We are super proud of the lineup we've got together for 2018. It's going to a bit more of a dance party than previous years so prepare your most bangin' but also comfy shoes. Brooke Powers - Yeah that's right Brooke Powers will be closing the evening with a full set of her delicious garage house magic. You're welcome. Bio - "Brooke Powers has carved out a name for herself in the Melbourne clubbing landscape, bringing an unmistakably idiosyncratic vibe with every performance. Having been featured in peak-time sets at Golden Plains Festival, Dark Mofo, and Freedom Time and supporting titans including Honey Dijon, The Black Madonna and Juliana Huxtable. Her selections begin with her penchant for Garage House and extend outwards, through classic New York cuts, Chicago minimalism, all the way through to tribal, acid, and techno." read more here - https://www.watartists.com/#/brooke-powers/ Jesswar - Grace and Jenny nearly crashed their car and died when they first heard Jesswar's new single 'Savage' on Triple R. It is a dream come true to have her at WETFEST IV. "Jesswar is an independent, Brisbane based Hip Hop Artist hailing from Fiji. At 22 she’s driven, hungry and proving it, having already played at some of Australia's most prominent music festivals and supported a wide range of artists from Seth Sentry to Lady Leshurr. She is as ferocious as she is fearless and commands audiences when her hands are on the mic. With all this under her belt, Jesswar is looking out to an even brighter 2018 catch her eating your local scene alive." read more here https://www.jesswarwar.com/ CORIN - We are totally mesmerised by Corin's starkly beautiful sound and performance and can't wait for her to transfix you all through Howler's mint sound system. "CORIN is a gathering knot of permutations—the sound of something meticulously ruined and renewed. Composed and performed principally with just two synthesizers, Corin Ileto establishes a dialogue of mimicry with her machines that becomes near-cybernetic—an anomalous approach that has led to her sharing stages with luminaries like Fatima Al Qadiri." No filter, tongue in cheek song writing and a solid dose of 2-3 minute straight up punk bangers. It’s about time they played at WETFEST tbqh. Moaning Lisa – We discovered Moaning Lisa when we played with them in Canberra on our album tour. We were quite frankly embarrassed with ourselves for never having seen or listened to them before. They are everything you loved about 90s grunge but with a bigger and more anthemic sound and we guarantee that they’re gonna be your new favourite band. Have a geez at their new single ‘Carrie’ and proceed to sing it all the way into April 21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo_6PmLor9M Racerage – Fierce, on point and everything that the Melbourne music community needs right now. We are absolutely honored to have Racerage on the bill for 2018. "Racerage is an emerging politi-cute queer post-internet rapper based on Wurundjeri country. Their lyrical themes draw from their background in spoken word; focussing on the struggles, frustrations and interweb memery of intersectional feminism, decolonisation, race issues and the queer bubble. Racerage collaborates primarily with other QTIPOC beatmakers and artists and is excited about creating creative expression within and about their communities." Porpoise Spit – You know that band we get to open WETFEST that is everyone’s favourite band a few months later? Yeah, this is that band. "Porpoise Spit was birthed as a queer ode to D-grade Aussie celebrities and morphed into something both parts tragic and comedic. With their bittersweet millennial tones and suburban pub, mum rock dreamscape, Porpoise Spit will flip you the bird and make a break straight for your bloody heart. YOU CAN’T STOP PROGRESS." DJ Eva Lubulwa We were driving home from rehearsal late one night and we couldn't decide who we would get to DJ at WETFEST. We kept getting distracted by all the bangers that Eva Lubulwa was playing on her fill on Triple R's Hood Pass...so we decided to ask her! Eva will be joining us for her first ever live DJ gig and you can try to get as excited as we are by listening to her awesome show POCNESS on Triple R: https://www.rrr.org.au/program/pocness/ We would like to acknowledge that this event is being held on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge that their sovereignty has never been ceded and pay respect to Elders past, present, and emerging. Howler is a wheelchair accessible venue. Tickets: this year we have an option to buy a ticket for someone else to attend the event. We are giving priority to QTIPoC and people with a disabilities for these tickets. If you can afford it please consider this option. It will help us let everyone enjoy WETFEST whilst still being able to pay all the artists fairly. Please email [email protected] and we will put you on a wait list for one of these tickets and then email it to you when one comes available.
