We launch our series on April 29th 2018 with Simon Caldwell who was recently dubbed by Resident Advisor as 'the original & the best' in their October 2017 local Sydney mailer. Umut, like Simon, is unmatched in his musical stylings and together they will deliver a Sunday session like no other. Set Times: 14:00 Umut 17:00 Simon Caldwell SYD 21:00 Kari Jennifer Cook Simon Caldwell Simon is one of a handful of DJ's whose name adds a certain integrity to an event. Playing since the early 1990’s to beer drinkers, bum shakers and radio listeners alike, he has managed to avoid the stifling 'style' classification so many other DJ's trap themselves into, keeping himself free to draw on his varied loves of deep, soulful house, techno, funk, jazz, electro, booty, hip hop and anything else which catches his ear. Simon has supported (on the same stage) a list of internationals longer than your arm, including Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, James Brown, DJ Sotofett, The Black Madonna, Todd Terje, Rolando, Herbert, Claude Young, Maurice Fulton, Grace Jones, Derrick Carter, Vakula, Moodymann, Actress, Onra, Moritz von Oswald, Charles Webster, Fred P and Frankie Knuckles, to name just a few. He currently holds down Monday Sunset on FBI Radio, and is resident/co-promoter of Mad Racket, a Sydney underground party institution running since 1998, responsible for the first ever tours of Moodymann, Herbert, Jamie Lidell, The Black Madonna, Charles Webster, Jus Ed & Steve Bug, among others. Among many podcasts and live mixes, Simon has been invited to present mixes for Resident Advisor’s illustrious podcast (#181), Melbourne Deepcast, John Digweed’s Transitions show and Boiler Room (in early 2014, alongside Derrick Carter). In mid 2014 Simon based himself in Berlin for three months and played 5 shows there at clubs including Wilde Renate and Prince Charles, plus 2 shows in Russia and shows in Hamburg (Golden Pudel Club) and London (Rhythm Section, Peckham). In 2016 and 2017 Simon did shows in Berlin and Hamburg, including sets at legendary clubs Golden Pudel (Hamburg) and Heidegluhen and About:blank (Berlin) Umut Experiencing the tail end of the 90s in London after relocating from his native Turkey, Umut began his musical journey playing at underground jazz cafes and raves in the Norfolk woods, quickly earning a spot as a resident DJ with the legendary Rotation community radio crew. A longtime backstage player involved with countless labels, artists and parties in Istanbul, London and his current home Melbourne, Umut’s eclectic and versatile taste has been on regular display alongside the likes of Tako, Jamie Tiller, Nick The Record, Rahaan and The Black Dog to name a few, with his affinity for the wonderfully obscure shining through on recent appearances for Red Light Radio and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM. Kari Jennifer Cook Creator of 'The Last Drop' and classic good time raver turned DJ. Expect a mix of House, Disco and Afrobeat served up with an enthusiastic attitude and a cheerful disposition.
