Purple Sneakers are back to celebrate their thirteenth birthday and another year of being #TrustedForTaste. This time, they’re teaming up with their good friends at creative music agency UNDR Ctrl and local institution FBi Radio to do it.
Purple Sneakers has celebrated their birthday as an official part of Vivid Sydney for the past three years and are ready to do it all over again this year.
Taking to The Lansdowne for another full venue takeover across two stages, the festivities will be kicking off at 8PM, ending at 3AM. This year, they’re bringing together some of their favourite artists from Sydney and beyond, as well as some of their favourite local crews for an all-in family affair.
For their thirteenth birthday, they’re bringing on board a diverse range of artists across a wide spectrum of club music.
With his new single being added to full rotation on triple j, Sydney’s Mickey Kojak will be bringing his full band & new EP ‘Coming Together’ to PS13. Sydney favourites Fishing will deliver a much-coveted DJ set, while next-big-thing and NLV Records signee Kota Banks will take to the stage with her empowering, boundary-breaking pop.
DIN (AKA Moon Holiday & Rainbow Chan) will collaboratively explore club-ready sounds in their live set, armed with their self-titled six-track debut. After a stellar few months including her announcement on the Splendour In The Grass lineup, Rebel Yell will deliver her signature live industrial techno onslaught.
Travelling up from Melbourne, future beat makers Close Counters will be taking to the live stage with their funky debut full-length ‘SOULACOASTA’. After collaborating with the likes of Stu Turner from Set Mo, Wongo, GANZ & more, Chase Zera will be taking to the stage showing why she was born to perform.
Your new triple j House Party host and bonafide party DJ Ebony Boadu will be gracing the decks, as will fellow triple j host of The Kick On and energetic party-starter, Shantan Wantan Ichiban.
Also on the bill, get set for turbo selector Lex Deluxe and her keen eye for melding sounds and genres from all over, Nectar’s Merph, who will be emerging from the dusty crates of Sydney’s record stores and Sydney DJ/event producer/writer/community organiser/curator/podcaster and all- round overachiever Ayebatonye.
After closing out the main stage at last year’s birthday event, Purple Sneakers DJs will be back this year to do it all again.
And the party wouldn’t be complete without a little help from our friends at Sydney boutique agency Finer Things and local label Trench Records, who will help kick off the festivities.
