Event details

Rhythm and Vines was established in 2003 by three university friends Tom Gibson, Andrew Witters and Hamish Pinkman as a way to celebrate the New Year’s. The festival is and always has been held as Witters's own family estate called Waiohika in Gisborne, New Zealand. The very first festival attracted just 1800 guests over one day, but this all changed in 2008 when it expanded to a 3 day/2-night festival. This allowed R&V to get bigger acts and expand to which has since grown to a party with over 20,000 festival-goers. It’s fair to say that Rhythm and Vines has become a rite of passage for many New Zealanders. Previously renowned main acts which R&V has brought to New Zealand include Santigold, Flume, Franz Ferdinand and The Kooks.

The festival has won many awards, including Best NZ event by New Zealand’s Tourism board and it’s easy to see why. Not only does Rhythm and Vines bring some of the world’s finest acts to New Zealand it also puts on an incredible range of breathtaking stage designs and entertainment. 2015 introduced live comedy and even motocross stunt riders to complement the incredible musical line-ups.

Rhythm and Vines are constant sell-outs, as the organizers continue to create world-class showcases to the edge of the southern world.
