Experimental psychedelic folk artist Weyes Blood has been announced for a special Tasmanian debut performance at the Odeon Theatre.

America’s Weyes Blood (Natalie Mering) has made her name by reviving 60s and 70s stylistic approaches to music, both in her songwriting and through collaborations with artists such as Ariel Pink, Drugdealer, and live performances with Lana Del Rey.

After her self-released debut album, The Outside Room (2011), she signed with the independent label Mexican Summer, releasing The Innocents (2014), and Front Row Seat to Earth (2016). Her fourth and highest-charting studio album, Titanic Rising was released in April (2019) on Sub Pop, to critical acclaim.

Titanic Rising spills freely on Weyes Blood’s perspectives on modern dating, millennial disillusionment, climate change and deep emotional reactions to major world events. Having grown up between Pennsylvania and California, singing madrigals and Renaissance music, the folk artist has spurned the sugar and spiced her music with left-field drones and incantatory spookiness.

With a live performance that has been described as "stirring yet serene; joyous yet plaintive; ethereal yet earthy; and optimistic yet doom-laden,” Weyes Blood is a bundle of contradictions, and a voice for our era.
