Violent Femmes | Thebarton Theatre | Adelaide

Event details

Rumour has it that upon enrolment into Australian university students receive a copy of the Violent Femmes eponymous debut. Ten tracks and 36 minutes long, the album features the universal themes of alienation, isolation, sexual frustration and angst - perfect early adult fodder - via songs such as Gone Daddy Gone, Kiss Off, Add it Up, Please Do Not Go and of course, Blister in the Sun. We don’t know if that rumour is true, of course, but it would go some way in explaining ‘The Femmes’ enduring popularity in our parts.

And so we welcome Violent Femmes to Australian shores this coming March for their first national tour since 2017. This time they come with a brand new album - their 10th - Hotel Last Resort, which resides among the band’s finest work, simultaneously refining and redefining their one-of-a-kind take on American music, mingling front porch folk, post punk, spiritual jazz, country blues, avant garde minimalism and golden age rock ‘n’ roll into something still altogether their own.

"A Violent Femmes album is always a treat; witty, lucid, self-deprecating, beat-up but ever-reliable…” - Classic Rock

"They’re still fun and vital, and they still know how to make an exit.” - Rolling Stone

“There's something rather comforting about finding them wholly unchanged after four decades and nearly 10 million album sales” - Mojo Magazine

For their 2020 Australian tour the Femmes will present the classics from both Hotel Last Resort and the multi-platinum debut, mixed in with even more goodness from 1984’s Hallowed Ground, 1991’s Gold certified Why Do Birds Sing? and loads more.
