Newcastle Town Moor, located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, is a large open space situated to the north of the city centre. The moor consists of around 300 hectares of former pasture land which has been delineated by ancient roads and pathways over the years. It is a great place for a walk or some outdoor activity. There's plenty of wildlife to be spotted, and the trees and shrubs provide a welcomed shelter from the elements. It is best known for its racedays, which have been run twice a year since 1280, the first of which is the Town Moor Races. There is also a variety of public events throughout the year, such as live music festivals and parades. The moor also contains a number of monuments and memorials, such as the Northumbrian Americans Memorial and several war memorials.
