Heaton Park is a large public park situated in north Manchester. The park covers 630 acres and is the largest park in Greater Manchester. It was formed in the 18th Century when Sir Thomas Egerton purchased Old Hall and its grounds. It is home to a variety of facilities including artificial and real lakes, motor racing circuit, golf course, pitch and putt, aviary, athletics track, equestrian centre, museums, and play areas. There is an abundance of flora, fauna, wildlife and open green space. There is also a tram line running from Bury to Heaton Park which carries tourists and locals alike throughout the summer months to enjoy the park.
