Rochester Castle is a beautiful Norman fortress located in the town of Maidstone, Kent. Built in the late 11th century, the castle stands on the banks of the River Medway and offers stunning views across the surrounding landscape. The castle is made up of a large keep, the tallest of its kind in the country, along with six other towers, a gatehouse and an impressive curtain wall. The castle contains a wide variety of architectural features from its long and turbulent history, including a Romanesque chapel, an underground prison and a number of historic sculptures. Visitors to Rochester Castle can enjoy spectacular views of the River Medway, explore the impressive ruins, and discover fascinating stories of battles past.
