Auckland Choral: Light

Line-up

Event details

Children under 3 years will not be admitted to this event. All patrons must hold a valid ticket for entry. Light, and the idea of light is the source of inspiration for the works of this concert. From the resplendent energy of Jonathan Dove's motet VAST OCEAN OF LIGHT to the serenity and warmth of Eric Whitacre's LUX AURUMQUE, the concert explores various composers' responses to light. LUX AETERNA is a tranquil, light-filled piece by one of America's best-loved choral composers, Morten Lauridsen. He composed this requiem in 1997, the year his mother died - "a light filled continuum of sacred texts, old world structures and new world spirit", according to The Times. The lights of the future shine in the presentation of the winning works from the Auckland Choral Foundation Student Composers Prize. To end the concert, our Alumni join the choir for David Hamilton's A BLESSING OF LIGHT which draws on Celtic texts, and Handel's exhilarating and joyful ZADOK THE PRIEST.
